Some of you asked for editor's comments or a review so you could know a little more about the story, Santa's Jet the Story and the Music. Editor notes are listed below.
Jenny is an Editor at Wiley:
Music: Wow, you are a talented musician! I absolutely love the music on the audio CD planned to accompany the book, especially the original music written by you. I also thought the idea of putting music to the book's read-along style was very creative and unique. If you can get someone out there to read this, they will be nothing but impressed!
Sidenote: I absolutely LOVED the songs Santa's Jet and Santa Calypso.
Story: I like the idea of having three story lines and locations merge into one in the end (Alaska, North Pole and "Home"). I also like the reality the story brings. There are many families out there who run into a similar situation where Dad can't come home for Christmas due to work circumstances or whatnot, yet you keep it from a child's perspective, which I like.
Timing: I think with this story timing is key. In order for everything to work out in the end, the writer has to be very careful about when to bring in the climax of the story, when to bring Dad home, etc. You do a great job with that here. Everything really peaks around when Santa's Jet is needed, and then Dad comes home to be with his family at Christmas (and in both situations, a "jet" is part of the action, which is great symbolism).
Details: Some writing professors I had in college used to tell me that the details are what make a story. You have some great details throughout this story, including what I just mentioned about Santa's Jet, and how Dad comes home on a jet. Also, I love the whole, "You owe me a soda!" thing. I love that it comes up repeatedly, because that shows us a lot about the kids. Of course, the biggest and best detail is the way the music is incorporated into the story, and how perfectly it's done. The music and lyrics fit so well into the storyline.
This is a genius idea and I'm so glad you let me read it! Best of luck and please let me know if there is any more I can do.
On the final draft her comment was, "Wow! I love the improvement in this draft!"
